OFSW works to improve the conditions of professional activity within the Polish contemporary art field. Within the Forum, problems and possible solutions are debated, and shared positions are developed on matters of critical importance to the contemporary art community. The Forum often serves as a source of impetus for change, leading to the implementation of tangible improvements in the economic and professional situation of art professionals.

The Forum draws on the deep and long-standing experience of its members – thanks to its cross-sectoral profile, it benefits from the knowledge of individuals representing different positions within the art field, as well as diverse professional experiences and roles.

The Forum has been active since 2009. Since 2023, OFSW has operated as a registered organisation.
Since its establishment, OFSW has initiated numerous debates and initiatives of major importance to the Polish artistic community. It brought the issue of social insurance for artists into public discourse, leading to the commencement of work on legislation concerning social security for this group; established the first agreement setting minimum fees for participation in exhibitions; on 24th May 2012 organised an artistic ‘strike’ – a Day Without Art [pl. Dzień bez sztuki]; and published The Black Book of Polish Artists [pl. Czarna księga polskich artystów].
