The New Agreement on Minimum Artist Fees is an agreement between the artistic community in Poland, represented by the Civic Forum for Visual Arts, and the institutions willing to present transparent and regulated minimum fees for participating in the institution’s exhibitions and programmes. The New Agreement specifies the minimum fees – for larger projects or more complicated processes or when the institution’s scale and budget allows, a higher fee is possible and advisable.

The New Agreement on Minimum Artist Fees is also a guideline for artists, art professionals, institutions and other public and non-public bodies engaged in the art field, on how to value the artists’ work in creation and presentation of exhibitions.

In the New Agreement the artist fee is calculated based on current minimal wage. For each category of exhibition participation, an estimated realisation/working time is assigned (in months). This is multiplied by official minimum wage in Poland.

Time x minimum wage = fee

It is important to note that the indicated artist fee does not cover works production, artist nor work transportation or accommodation. Those should be provided additionally.

At this stage the New Agreement covers only exhibition fees – both for presenting existing works, as well as new commissions. Further categories, specifying fees for performances, public talks, lectures as well as curating and writing, are in development.
